When we have summer in the United States, the people in Australia are having winter.  This is because the United States is north of the equator and Australia is located south of the equator.

People in Australia enjoy many benefits because the country is a robust democracy.  It is considered to be one of the most "free" countries in the world by independent human rights organizations.  There are still concerns, however.  Aboriginal peoples, the people whose ancestors were in Australia for more than 50,000 years face many more struggles than other groups of Australians.  Aboriginal Australians come from many distinct groups of people.  You can learn more about their history here.  Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States, Australians are working for equity.

Miss Rebekah read the books Australia and Koalas.  You can put a hold on them by clicking on the titles.
